1) Mjondalen vs Brann (Norwegian Playoffs, 6PM) – WRITTEN BY @Tip4TheWeekend
Brann face Mjøndalen in Mjøndalen after failing to take a comfortable score line from the home tie (1-1) of this 1/2 play-off. Brann, as the Eliteserien team entered the play-off favourites but a rather unconvincing home performance has left them looking in a bit of danger. A 0-0 draw here sees Mjøndalen get promoted on the away goal rule but I doubt it will come to that. Most reports of the first leg tell of a Mjøndalen side that were very unlucky not to come away with an advantage for the return leg. They grew into the game in the second half and even began to dominate in the later stages, out-shooting Brann 5-2 from the 75 minute mark. Brann come into this game with bigger disadvantage than an unfavourable score line: injuries. Their first keeper, Leciejewski, is out with a back injury and their defence is far from full strength with Mojsov (16, 2), Vindheim (21, 2) and Jonsson (7, 0) all injured last game. Neither have taken part in a training session since the first leg. “At least they have a goal scorer, right?” Nope. Top scorer, Orlov (25, 9) is out too.  Barmen (m, 19, 1) and Grønner (d, 19, 3) missed last game and are set to miss this leg too. Mjøndalen also play on artificial turf while Brann play on grass. A few Eliteserien teams have artificial turf but most are natural grass while Mjøndalen more often than not play on artificial turf. One last piece of info is that Brann have only been allocated 300 tickets due to fears of violence. They are a professional team that will can deal with a few absences but with reports of them already cutting their budget and selling their best players to deal with relegation, confidence in the camp isn’t at its peak.  Mjøndalen on the other hand are full of confidence from the first leg and are surrounded by headlines of “The Million Dollar Game”. Will they choke, or will they get their million dollars? Well, I certainly can’t back Brann with all those injuries.
SAFE BET: Mjondalen or Draw at 2/5
MEDIUM BET: Mjondalen 0.0, -0.5 Asian Handicap at 2.000
RISKY BET: Mjondalen -1.0 Asian Handicap at 3.200

2) Martizburg United vs Moroka Swallows (South African PSL, 5:30PM)
We take a rare venture into South African football this evening as Martizburg United take on Moroka Swallows at the Harry Gwala Stadium.  Martizburg are currently on a 4 game unbeaten streak but more importantly, they are one of only two sides in this league who currently boast an undefeated home record (league leaders Kaizer Chiefs being the other).  It’s all about 2nd place in this league really as Kaizers often run away with it and with a win this evening Martizburg can move into 2nd and leapfrog Ajax Cape Town who they collected a 0-0 draw against last time.  They haven’t been beaten here since March and have collected 11 points from a possible 15 on home soil this season with wins over 7th, 11th and 13th and draws against 8th and 9th.  Today they host 15th placed (2nd bottom) side Moroka Swallows who have had a tough season so far.  Fani Madida was appointed as their new coach last month after a disappointing run of results and after an impressive 1-1 draw with Kaizer Chiefs he has subsequently gone on to lose his last 2 games as manager against 2 bottom half sides.  It’s now 7 games without a win of which 6 have been losses for the Soweto outfit and though they are well clear of bottom side Amazulu, the fight could well be on in the relegation playoff if their form doesn’t improve.  On the other hand, the appointment of Steve Komphela as Martizburg coach back in January this year seems to have been a great decision.  This side finished 10th in the PSL last year but since his appointment he has lost only 25% of games, a massive improvement on the 40% loss rate they were seeing in the 2013-14 season.  10 different players have found the net for Martizburg in the PSL this season and though they come into this on the back of successive 0-0 draws, they do have players capable of finding the net and they set up in Ajax Cape Town to defend a draw, which they did successfully.  Here on home soil that should be a different story and you can expect the likes of Mandaza to build on his two goals recently against SuperSport United while 19 year old Ghanaian Anas could also be a threat.  During what was a poor campaign for them last season, Martizburg collected a 1-0 win here against Moroka and a 1-1 draw away from home.  I don’t expect this to be high scoring but I do expect the hosts to prevail with all 3 points.
SAFE BET: Martizburg United Draw No Bet at 2/5
MEDIUM BET: Martizburg United to win at Evens
RISKY BET: Martizburg to win & Under 2.5 Goals at 3/1

3) Basel vs Real Madrid (UEFA Champions League, 7:45PM)
It started with an own goal and went slowly downhill from there.  Basel’s 5-1 loss at the Bernabeu a few months back will be fresh in the mind of the Swiss club as they host Spanish giants Real Madrid this evening.  The visitors have already secured qualification to the last 16 and anything less than a 4-0 loss to Basel this evening will also see them through as group Champions.  On that note you may be expecting Carlo Ancelotti to take it easy knowing that Ludogorets await them in their final game in what should be a routine victory, but he is pretty adamant on sealing 1st spot tonight.  Bale, Ronaldo, James, Benzema, Isco, Illarimendi, Ramos, Casillas and more have all travelled to Switzerland for the game tonight.  Ancelotti is expected to give Isco a run out and may well change his full backs who are “tired” but all in all he is aiming to field the same XI that started against Basel last time.  Sami Khedira has a knock and hasn’t travelled with the squad and Modric, Jese and Pepe will all be missing for the visitors.  The most interesting aspect here for me though isn’t Real Madrid, it’s Basel.  Coach Paolo Sousa has said some worrying words in the press this week which leads me to believe this could either be genius or a massacre.  Remember that if Basel win this game and Liverpool fail to win, they will progress and Liverpool will be out.  So his intention this evening is to go out and used “attacking and courageous” football against Real Madrid.  The problem is that when you attack Real Madrid you end up playing right into their hands.  Their ability to counter-attack at blistering pace means they often sit back and invite pressure and the desperation of attacking them for Basel could well lead to their demise.  There’s a perfectly good reason why Real Madrid have won 14 consecutive games in all competitions, scoring 3 or more goals in 11 of those.  Their attacking power really does have no comparison in modern football.  Even away from home they have been utterly incredible winning 8 games on the bounce scoring 8,2,2,5,3,4,4 and 4 goals in those games.  That’s not even taking into account that Basel could well find the net from this attacking setup which could well happen against a defence that is prone to errors.  Personally I think the 1/3 for Real Madrid to win and the handicaps look incredible but you just have to go goals here for the aspect of safety really.  If Sousa’s plan was to pay off then you never know what could happen but one thing is for certain and that is the fact that goals here look immense.
SAFE BET: Over 2.5 Goals at 4/11
MEDIUM BET: Over 3.5 Goals at 5/6
RISKY BET: Over 4.5 Goals at 2/1
